The Markets

The Regeneration Gallery will be presenting a group exhibition of 19 photographs by four artists that looks at the regeneration of Sheffield's markets in 2008.

The show, which runs for a month, will be held in a stall at Castle Markets for the first two weeks, then will move down and be held in the Bandstand amongst the Moor Markets for the second two weeks.

The exhibition includes Heather Lees, retired photography lecturer, looking at the new buildings that have replaced the Sheaf Market. architect Mark Parsons, of Studio Polpo and design tutor for Sheffield University, will look at the architecture of the Castle Markets building before it disappears forever. Eric Winnert, curator of the Regeneration Gallery, will present a series of portraits of the Moor Market Traders before they leave for another part of the city, while Steve Withington, local professional photographer, will be looking at the demolition work on the Moor to make way for the new indoor markets.

Over the course of the regeneration the gallery will continue to document the change happening to the markets.
